To craft a Crab Pot, you need 40 Wood and 3 Iron Bars. Every Crab Pot catch gives 5 XP, even if it’s trash. This is a great way to level up fishing in Stardew Valley with no effort. Crab Pots help you catch fish, gain XP, and make money easily.

When you begin the game with no fishing skills in Stardew Valley, we recommend starting at two spots: the river in Pelican Town and the ocean. These areas have easy-to-catch fish, such as Sardine, Anchovy, Smallmouth Bass, and Sunfish. These fish are simple to catch because they move steadily, helping you quickly level up your fishing skills. Plus, you can sell your catch for a good price at Willy’s shop.

There are two fishing events added to the game: Trout Derby and Squidfest. The Trout Derby happens in the Summer on the 20th and 21st, where you can catch trout all day. Squidfest takes place in Winter on the 12th and 13th, and you can trade a Squid Hat for prizes. These events also have mini-games and fun challenges. Pro Tip: If you have a telephone at home, you can call Robin’s shop before going. This helps you check materials and avoid wasted trips if the shop is closed or you are missing items.

In Stardew Valley 1.6, a new fish called Goby has been added. This update also changes fish behavior in ponds, making fish farming more useful and profitable.

Pro Tip: Don’t throw away Green Algae or Seaweed! They are useful for crafting, cooking, and quests. Also, if you plan to build multiple fish ponds, space them out wisely to avoid overcrowding.

Legendary fish are very rare and hard to catch in the Stardew Valley game. These special fish can only be found in certain places, during specific seasons, and require a good fishing skill level. Unlike normal fish, legendary fish have a crown icon in the fishing mini-game. Also, they can only be caught once per player per game (except in multiplayer mode).

Note (Update 1.6.9): Now, you can keep five legendary fish in a fish pond. Unlike normal fish, they do not reproduce, but they change the pond water color based on the fish inside.
